In 2006, the Sydney Symphony travelled to Japan with Chief Conductor Gianluigi Gelmetti as part of Asia Orchestras Week to perform two concerts in Tokyo and Osaka with guest soloist Jóse Carbo.
In 2000, the Sydney Symphony was invited to perform in the highly prestigious Dewan Filharmonik Petronas International Series in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia.
Ten years after touring to the USA for the first time, in 1998 the Sydney Symphony returned to once again perform across the country, covering 11 cities in just 2 weeks.
In 1996, the Sydney Symphony toured to Japan (the first time the Orchestra had ever visited this country) and Taiwan, performing in Amagasaki, Nagoya, Tokyo and Taipei.
In 1995, the Sydney Symphony travelled to various cities throughout Europe including London and Berlin, the first time the Orchestra had performed in Europe for more than 20 years.
In commemoration of Australia’s bicentenary in 1988, the Sydney Symphony toured across the USA for the first time in its history, performing in 12 cities over three weeks including performances with Dame Joan Sutherland in New York.
