Sydney Symphony OrchestraSYDNEY SYMPHONY 80th ANNIVERSARY YEAR (2012) - COMPOSITION PRIZE
The Sydney Symphony invites composers to submit a new, not yet performed orchestral composition for large orchestra* of a maximum duration of 10 minutes.
The work should in some way celebrate the 80th anniversary of the founding of the Sydney Symphony in 1932 and take inspiration from other 80th anniversaries in 2012 (Sydney Harbour Bridge and the ABC).
The winning entry will be performed at a Sydney Symphony concert on 22 March 2012, in the Sydney Opera House Concert Hall, conducted by Vladimir Ashkenazy.
Submissions will be adjudicated by a panel consisting of:

* Notes:
• The instrumentation may not exceed the following:
3333 – 4331 – harp – pno – tmp+3 – strings
• This competition is open to Australian composers who have not yet had a work performed by the Sydney Symphony in the Sydney Opera House Concert Hall.
• The work must be an original work and not yet performed in public.
• There is no age limit.
• Each entrant is limited to one submission only.
• The winning composition will receive premiere performances conducted by Vladimir Ashkenazy in the Sydney Opera House Concert Hall, a national broadcast and webstream. All printing and binding of scores and orchestral parts will be covered by the Sydney Symphony. The composer will receive $5,000 as prize-money for the winning composition.
