Although based in Sydney the Sydney Symphony’s education reach goes far beyond the borders of NSW!
Nationwide programs
We have a number of national annual projects for emerging
Australian performers and composers. The Sinfonia and
Fellowship programs are auditioned nationally each year and
approximately 60 young musicians are selected to present concerts
in our mentoring orchestra.
The Sinfonietta Composition
project identifies exceptional emerging composers from around
the country and brought to Sydney for intensive work with our
musicians and Richard Gill. In recent years we have started
offering Professional Learning workshops for teachers in the
capital cities with pedagogy and ideas to enrich classrooms around
the country.
We trialled our first online Professional Learning workshop this
year with great success and we intend to continue this initiative
to reach more parts of Australia. An online Sydney Symphony
Education Resource Library is currently in development. This will
allow anyone to become a member and access our resource material on
our website. There are some free resources already available for
download.
International Outreach
In 2011 we held our first international programs in South Korea,
working with instrumental students of school and tertiary ages in a
series of rehearsals with Chief Conductor Vladimir Ashkenazy, our
orchestral musicians and Russian cellist Misha Maisky.
In 2012 the Sydney Symphony will be working on education
outreach projects with musicians in Guangzhou, China.
