The Professional Development Program provides teachers with valuable resources and teaching strategies that complement each Meet the Music concert and support the current music education Music 2 syllabus mandatory topics of Music 1600–1900, and Music of the past 25 years (Australian focus), and a wide range of topics from the Music 1 and Years 7–10 Music course.
The Professional Development Program is made up of two parts:
1. A one-day seminar for music teachers and students presented by Richard Gill, Artistic Director of the Sydney Symphony’s Education Program, which focuses on the Australian and contemporary works featured during the year and how they relate to other works in the series. Richard’s examination of composition techniques and syllabus requirements during the seminar is designed to inspire, as well as inform, teachers and their students. The seminar is ideal for students studying music for the HSC, preparing HSC compositions and/or studying Australian music

2. Written resource kits outlining the repertoire for each concert, including an additional kit relating specifically to Australian composition. Written by leading NSW music educators they contain information about the composers and their works, two copies of sound excerpts on CD, score extracts and teaching activities aligned to the current music syllabi. Kits are posted out in advance of the concerts to allow maximum preparation time.
Participating schools also receive one BONUS complimentary subscription for every ten subscriptions booked. Please note that there is a limit of five complimentary subscriptions per participating institution.
