Schools & TeachersMeet the Music
Sydney Symphony Education Program’s flagship concert series at the Sydney Opera House, designed especially for secondary students, with four programs each year.
Meet the Music is the perfect way to introduce your students to the world of symphonic music and classical concert-going. Inspiring and educative, these lively performances feature some of the world’s finest conductors and soloists performing music specially selected to correspond with the current music syllabuses.
There’s no better way to engage and excite your students and cover a range of topics in Years 7–10 and HSC music syllabuses than by bringing them to see and hear the full Sydney Symphony Orchestra live on stage at the Sydney Opera House.
The Meet the Music concert series is an unrivalled musical experience that you and your students won’t want to miss. It offers a stimulating and inspiring introduction to live orchestral concerts, and is tailored to meet specific syllabus requirements.
Each program presents a fresh mix of the symphonic repertoire, including contemporary and Australian works corresponding with the current New South Wales secondary school music education syllabuses.
Pre-concert talks are held at 5.45pm in the Northern Foyer. Where possible, these talks involve the featured Australian composer, discussing the music from the concert and providing insight into the programmed work. These talks are intended to enhance both students’ and teachers’ concert experience. In addition, each concert is presented from the stage by Andrew Ford, award-winning writer, composer and broadcaster, and presenter of The Music Show on ABC Radio National.
