Schools' Composition Challenge

Sydney Olympic Park Concerts

CAN YOU IMAGINE YOUR COMPOSITION FEATURED IN OUR CONCERT?

Since 2010 Sydney Symphony has invited all schools attending the Sydney Olympic Park Concerts to submit their own compositions based on repertoire and/or a compositional style presented in the Sydney Olympic Park Concerts for possible inclusion in the concert program.

In 2011 we had some fantastic submissions from enthusiastic young composers and included two performances in our concerts. In 2010 we included four performances - click here to watch Yr 5 & 6 students from Redeemer Baptist School perform their composition Scorpions from the 2010 Schools' Composition Challenge. Why not involve your students in 2012?

We are interested in hearing the music created by the imaginations of your class.

A task will be assigned based on the repertoire presented in the Sydney Olympic Park Concerts. Full details of the 2012 Schools Composition Challenge will be available in March.

The composition may be something the Sydney Symphony Sinfonia orchestra can perform, or something members of your school can perform. Younger children may even consider adding choreography.

Students may submit individual or group compositions. It is our intention to include a live performance or recording of the winning compositions in the concerts at Sydney Olympic Park that those successful composers will attend.
