With 33 performances, 42 hours of music and over 74,000 attendees, the Sydney Symphony’s two-year Mahler cycle has come to a resounding close.
Beginning in 2010 to mark the 150th anniversary of the birth of Mahler and ending in 2011 when the world marked the centenary of the composer’s death, the Cycle saw the orchestra and Principal Conductor Vladimir Ashkenazy perform all 10 of Mahler’s symphonies plus a selection of his orchestral songs including ‘Song of the Earth.’
