Ashkenazy, Zukerman & Friends

Two Special Programs

Violin legend
Dates Prog 1: 16 Nov | Prog 2: 14, 15 Nov Venue Sydney Opera House
Duration To be advised.

Vladimir Ashkenazy has invited Pinchas Zukerman to join him in two celebratory programs. Two great musicians and some masterpieces of the repertoire.

PROGRAM 1 (13, 16 Nov)

From Bruch, we hear the "richest and most seductive" of violin concertos with one of the world's great violinists.

From Mahler, it's a tempestuous but ultimately uplifting journey from the heavy tread of a funeral march to a declaration of love (the famous Adagietto!) and on to an ecstatic finale. In Ashkenazy's hands, Mahler's Fifth Symphony is vivid and fiery, full of 'flair and bravado'. You'll want to hear this.

Program 1 appears in the Master Series (Wednesday only) and is repeated as a Special Event.

Pre-concert talk by Roger Benedict 7.15pm in the Northern Foyer.

Standing room tickets now available (for program 1 only), please contact our Box Office on (02) 8215 4600 for more information.

PROGRAM 2 (14, 15 Nov)

For many great musicians, the pinnacle of music-making is not orchestral music but chamber music. And in the Brahms Double Concerto, the two ideals are united: the grand sound of an orchestra and the intimacy of friends making music together.

For these concerts, Vladimir Ashkenazy has invited his friend and colleague Pinchas Zukerman and Zukerman's wife Amanda Forsyth to join him in the performance of Brahms's glowing and vibrant music.

Ashkenazy then revisits the triumph of his 2004 Sibelius Festival with the inspiring Fifth Symphony. From its quietly noble beginning to the climactic horn calls of its finale, this symphony radiates pure joy.

Program 2 appears in Thursday Afternoon Symphony and Tea & Symphony.

Pre-concert talk by Scott Davie at 12.45pm in the Northern Foyer (14 Nov only).
