The drama and magnificence of the high
baroque style comes to the stage of the Concert Hall with Handel's
Water Music.
When the Sydney Symphony performs baroque music we turn to
conductors who have the 18th-century style completely under their
skin. Reinhard Goebel, founder of Musica Antiqua Cologne, is one
such musician.
For the past 40 years he's introduced audiences throughout the
world to the splendour and excitement of baroque music played true
to style. And now he comes to Sydney with a program built around
the brilliant sounds of Handel's Water Music - a right
royal accompaniment for a king's trip on the Thames, c.1717.
Framing the Water Music suites are some rare treasures
- grand, moving and magnificent.
