What is the Emerging Artists Fund?
As part of its commitment to nurturing talented young musicians, the Sydney Symphony provides a range of programs that identify and cultivate the bright stars of the future. The following programs are supported by the Emerging Artists Fund:
The Sydney Sinfonia
Our mentoring orchestra enables 65 talented tertiary music students from across Australia to play beside Sydney Symphony musicians who offer technique tuition, feedback and repertoire instruction, furnishing students with the skills required to pursue a career as a professional musician. The Sydney Sinfonia performs in the Discovery Concert series and at the Sydney Symphony’s School Concerts.

The Fellowship Program
A Fellow of the Sydney Symphony receives training with Sydney Symphony Principal musicians, the opportunity to work in both the Sinfonia and the Orchestra and a stipend to assist with their studies and expenses. The program also offers workshops on a range of skills relevant to professional musicians such as how to deal with performance anxieties or how to present a concert etc.
Funding for these Fellowships comes from generous individuals and groups who recognise the need for this career development. A fellow’s sponsorship represents an annual investment of $20,000.

The Sinfonietta Project
This project provides a unique opportunity for high school students to have their original compositions workshopped and performed by the Sydney Symphony’s elite chamber ensemble, the Sydney Symphony Sinfonietta, conducted by acclaimed educator, Richard Gill.

Playerlink
Playerlink is a ‘residency’ program led by fifteen Sydney Symphony musicians in a selected NSW town. Over three to four days, we work with approximately 70 students who come from local schools which may not have an orchestra, or a band, or even a specialist teacher for their instruments. The Sydney Symphony musicians form an orchestra with the local students and we coach, mentor, workshop, rehearse and perform together.
