Dale Vail graduated from the New Zealand School of Music in 2016, before moving to Australia to undertake further study at the Australian National Academy of Music (ANAM). During his studies, Dale performed with orchestras in Wellington and Melbourne, toured internationally with the Wellington Brass Band, and was a member of the Royal New Zealand Air Force Band. He was Principal Trombone of the NZSO National Youth Orchestra on numerous occasions, as well as being awarded a fellowship with the NZSO in 2016.
In 2018, Dale was awarded the ADFAS Yarra Prize for Most Outstanding Recital Program at ANAM for his work as a soloist. On three occasions he has been the recipient of the Gisborne International Music Competitions Brass award. Dale is also a composer, regularly writing and performing his own solo repertoire in recitals.
