Tobias Aan grew up in Canberra, studying violin with John Gould and Barbara Jane Gilby, before commencing studies at the Sydney Conservatorium of Music with Ole Bohn. At the Conservatorium, he performed regularly as Concertmaster with the Conservatorium Symphony Orchestra and played in masterclasses with musicians such as Baiba Skride and Charlie Siem. Tobias graduated in 2017 with First Class Honours.
A passionate orchestral musician, Tobias performs regularly with the Sydney Symphony Orchestra, Opera Australia Orchestra as well as the Canberra Symphony Orchestra. As leader, he has performed with the Sydney Conservatorium and North Sydney symphony orchestras. In 2016, Tobias participated in the Australian Youth Orchestra´s international tour to Europe and China.
Tobias is also an active chamber musician. As a member of the Marrickville Quartet, he was invited to the Estivo Festival in Verona, Italy, and has also performed chamber music in Norway, China, Costa Rica, and Brazil. This is Tobias´ second year as a Sydney Symphony Orchestra Fellow.
