David Papp began studying piano at the age of six and oboe at the age of nine. In 2001, at the age of 17, he completed his Licentiate of Music diplomas on both oboe and piano. He completed his Bachelor of Music Performance degree at the Sydney Conservatorium of Music in 2008 and that same year was awarded a Sydney Symphony Orchestra Fellowship. He also performed in a private concert for Pope Benedict XVI during the World Youth Day celebrations in Sydney.
In 2008 he travelled to Beijing with the Sydney Conservatorium of Music to participate in a Musicathlon organised by the Beijing Central Conservatory of Music and the Yale School of Music. He was also awarded a 2008 Big Brother Travelling Scholarship. He has also been a member of the SBS Youth Orchestra, Australian Youth Orchestra and Sydney Sinfonia.
In 2009 David Papp was appointed to the position of Second Oboe with the Sydney Symphony Orchestra, and was a Grand Finalist in the Symphony Australia/ABC Young Performer Awards.
