Christian Tetzlaff performs Brahms
Brahms Violin Concerto

Brahms’ violin concerto is one of the most celebrated pieces in the repertoire, full of gorgeous melodies and drama, demanding total virtuosity.

Christian Tetzlaff has lived with the concerto his entire life: ‘It was the first concerto I actively listened to, and from the age of 16 I’ve played it about 200 times,’ he says. ‘It is a piece that gets closer and closer to me and having lived through more things you speak with more authority, especially about its darkness and joys.’

If any work can match the heroism of Brahms’s violin concerto it's Richard Strauss’ Ein Heldenleben – ‘A Hero’s Life’. It’s an epic of widescreen cinematic scope that calls on some heroic playing from a huge orchestra. Donald Runnicles will have the Sydney Town Hall ringing with the soaring sound of the Sydney Symphony in full flight.

Christian Tetzlaff’s appearances are generously supported by Brian Abel.
