Circus Scenes
SSO Fellows

'Hey, there! Hoopla! the circus is in town! Have you seen the elephant? Have you seen the clown?’

Yes, there will be a clown when the SSO Fellows come to the Sydney Opera House Utzon Room for Circus Scenes. She’ll have a trombone in hand, ready to perform Luciano Berio’s astonishing virtuoso tribute to Grock, the king of clowns. There’s more comedy in Poulenc’s music composed for a nonsense play by Cocteau and Radiguet, and in Eisler’s score intended for Charlie Chaplin’s film The Circus. Nino Rota’s collaboration with Federico Fellini resulted in nearly 20 soundtracks, including La dolce vita and the darkly subversive Orchestra Rehearsal, but he wrote concert music too and we'll be playing his high-spirited Nonet. A concert that will have you laughing and crying in turn – ‘Here’s the circus troupe!’

Duration: 75 minutes, no interval. Doors and bar open from 5:30pm
