With steely technique and passionate commitment to the music of today, pianist Lisa Moore is ‘an honoured new music maven’ (New Yorker).

An Australian based in New York, Lisa Moore occupies a niche as that city’s ‘queen of the avant-garde piano’. She is ‘a natural, compelling storyteller’ (New York Times), and her recitals encompass the breadth of the repertoire from Beethoven to the bleeding edge, always finding surprising connections.

In her Sydney recital, Lisa Moore explores the mists and forests of Romantics old and new. Philip Glass casts a hypnotic spell and Janáček’s mysterious impressionistic sketches are composed in ‘misty’ keys and hazy sonorities. She finds parallels in music by Beethoven and Schumann, two masters of mood and emotion. And Martin Bresnick’s Ishi’s Song sets music and words by the last Yahi Indian – a poignant reminder of the fragility of our world and its peoples.
