Seductive Mozart
A Mozart Celebration

Mozart will win your heart in the second of our Mozart Celebration programs with David Robertson and pianist Emanuel Ax.

In February David Robertson and Emanuel Ax are showcasing six of the great Mozart piano concertos over three weeks – a rare treat! The two concertos in this program were composed just weeks apart in 1784 and you can hear exactly why Mozart – pianist and composer – was all the rage in Vienna. This is music that’s brilliant, virtuosic and smart. Mozart clearly knows how to have fun (in the K453 concerto he even included a tune his pet starling had been taught to sing) and the overture to his comedy Così fan tutte sets the tone. By contrast, his Symphony No.39 was written in a slow year, but you’d never know it. This magnificent music rings with splendour and good humour.
