The Sydney Symphony Orchestra’s Professional Learning program provides teaching approaches that cover a range of music skills, pedagogies and classroom learning activities.

The Sydney Symphony Orchestra is endorsed to provide NESA-Registered Professional Development to the level of Proficient Teacher.

TunED-Up!™

Now in its sixth year, TunED-Up!™ is a week-long immersion course of music pedagogy for primary classroom teachers who have a desire to develop or expand music programs within their school community.

The course will consolidate music skills, introduce a range of approaches to teaching music in the classroom and provide strategies for whole-of-school music programming.

Applications now open. No previous experience in music education is required.

ToppED-Up! is a two-day refresher course available to teachers who have completed the TunED-Up!™ program. The course is designed to reinforce and build skills and knowledge acquired through TunED-Up!™ This is also an excellent opportunity to network with teachers involved in similar classroom programs.

Mussorgsky’s Pictures at an Exhibition is an orchestral classic. This workshop presents ways to encourage students to visualise each movement of a work that is rich in musical imagery.

This session reveals the musical techniques used to create aural pictures of animals. Works to be exambined include Saint-Saëns’ The Swan, Mancini’s Baby Elephant Walk and Matthew Hindson's Spiders and Rhinoceros Tango.

These special workshops are designed to support teachers who are preparing students attending the Sydney Symphony Orchestra’s Schools Concerts in Newcastle, Taree and Port Macquarie.

These sessions are a rare opportunity for local teachers to attend a NESA-accredited session led by expert music educators. Exact dates for each location will be confirmed by 8 February, 2019.
