TunED-Up!™ and ToppED-Up!

Now in its fifth year, TunED-Up!™ is a week-long immersion course of music pedagogy for NSW K–6 teachers with a passion and desire to develop or expand music programs within their school community.

TunED-Up!™ 2018 

15–19 January
Australian Institute of Music (AIM), Sydney Campus

This course will consolidate music skills, introduce a range of approaches to teaching music and provide strategies for whole-school music programming.

The program is designed for generalist teachers to build skills and confidence and will include:

  • Musical Experience in singing and choral work, movement, percussion activities, composition and listening exercises, to build skills, knowledge and confidence.
  • Resources to use in your classroom including online resources, lesson plans and recordings.
  • Pedagogy strategies to devise innovative music activities for your school to share with colleagues.
  • Application experience in sessions focusing on programming and assessment, based on the Australian Curriculum in the Arts.
  • Networking opportunities with like-minded inspiring teachers who appreciate the importance of rich arts-based learning and desire to make a difference within their school communities.
  • Build a relationship with the Sydney Symphony Orchestra and spend time with the musicians as they work.
  • Accredited to the National Professional Standards through NESA – The NSW Institute of Teachers.


TunED-Up!™ 2018 5-day program: valued at $500 per participant, but thanks to the generous support of philanthropic patrons SSO is offering all successful applicants subsidised places at $250.

Funding assistance is available upon request and awarded on a case-by-case basis. Please note that accommodation assistance is available for regional applicants.

Price includes access to SSO resources and a light lunch each day. If your application is successful a 20% non-refundable deposit is required to secure your place.


Eligible applicants will currently be working in a school and be lovers of music regardless of musical experience.
Pre-service teachers in their final year of training are also eligible to apply.

ToppED-Up! is an invitiation only two-day refresher course available to teachers who have completed the TunED-Up!™ program, designed to consolidate and build upon the skills and knowledge acquired in TunED-Up!™ as well as expanding the network of like-minded teachers. Eligible teachers will be contacted directly with more information in 2018.

Bostes   The Sydney Symphony Orchestra is endorsed to provide QTC Registered Professional Development for teachers accredited at Proficient Teacher.

TunED-Up!™ will contribute 40 hours of QTC Registered PD addressing 1.1.2, 2.1.2, 2.2.2, 6.2.2, 6.3.2, and 6.4.2 from the Australian Professional Standards for Teachers towards maintaining Proficient Teacher Accreditation in NSW.
