Building Characters in Music

Building Characters through Music

Music lets us tell stories without words. Composers use all sorts of wonderful techniques to set the scene, suggest drama and build characters. Exploring ideas from the works of classical and contemporary composers, we’ll unpack how instruments and sound effects are used in wonderous ways to create powerful heroes, diabolical villains and star-crossed lovers. This interactive Schools Concert is all about characters in music and how we bring them to life.

Musicians’ Playlist of Orchestral Favourites

Musicians Playlist of Orchestral Favourites

This is an interactive experience featuring a selection of favourites chosen by the musicians of the Sydney Symphony. What makes this concert so special is that the musicians also talk about their instruments, covering everything from why they love it to notes about tone colour, range and texture. From Dvořák’s vibrant Slavonic Dances to the flowing melody of Strauss’ Blue Danube, we’ll play the music that made our musicians fall in love with their instrument back in the day and sparked their aspirations to become professional orchestral musicians.
