Tabatha McFadyen

Tabatha McFadyen is a director, performer and writer born in Dubbo and based in Berlin. She made her directorial debut with Hamlet in the Brisbane Shakespeare Festival in 2019, and since November 2021 has been engaged at the Staatsoper Berlin as an assistant and revival director. She has worked alongside directors such as Claus Guth, Calixto Bieito, Barrie Kosky, Constantine Costi, Tomo Sugao and Caroline Staunton and conductors such as Massimo Zanetti, Matthias Pintscher and Sir Simon Rattle.

Originally trained as a classical singer, she performed internationally and won the Mietta Song Competition, the National Liederfest and the Antonin Dvorak Competition (Czech Republic).

Tabatha undertook postgraduate studies at the Mozarteum, Salzburg, having completed a Bachelor of Music with First Class Honours at the Queensland Conservatorium. Her final thesis centred on the performance demands of the vocal line from the third movement of Schoenberg’s String Quartet No.2. It makes for excellent dinner party conversation.
