Stevan trained as an orchestral instrumentalist at the Elder Conservatorium of Music, where he became involved in state and national youth orchestras and music camps–initially on stage as a tubist, but before long working behind the scenes.
He continued along this path professionally and has since worked with Australian orchestras, opera companies, festivals, and concert presenters in privileged roles that have supported all manner of music‑makers in the making of their music.
