Symphony of Stories
For children aged 5–12 and their families
Concert Hall, Sydney Opera House
Sat 21 Aug, 2027, 10.00am
Sat 21 Aug, 2027, 12.30pm
Designed for children aged 5–12 and their families, this concert uses familiar stories to show how composers paint scenes, shape characters and make stories sing.
In this concert for kids aged 5–12 and their families, led by Conductor in Residence Benjamin Northey, the Sydney Symphony Orchestra brings magical tales to life.
Richard Mills’s whimsical ballet Snugglepot & Cuddlepie beams with colour, character and atmosphere. From the Gumnut Blossoms to the Banksia Men, Mills captures all the wonder and charm of May Gibbs’s bush tales.
From there, we venture through the mischievous magic of Dukas’s The Sorcerer’s Apprentice and into the dreamlike world of Mendelssohn’s A Midsummer Night’s Dream, each piece opening a door into a new, spellbinding adventure.
Part concert, part storybook, this program is a chance to hear how composers paint scenes, shape characters and make stories sing.
