Andrea Lam performs Mozart
With Donald Runnicles & Sasha Cooke
Concert Hall, Sydney Opera House
Fri 8 Oct, 2027, 7.00pm
Sat 9 Oct, 2027, 2.00pm
A truly ravishing concert featuring Andrea Lam performing Mozart’s Piano Concerto No.23, the Australian premiere of an instant masterpiece by Alex Turley and wonderfully rich works by Beethoven and Ravel.
ARIA Award-winning Australian pianist Andrea Lam brings poise and sensitivity to Mozart’s Piano Concerto No.23. Australian composer Alex Turley is one of the most arresting voices of his generation: his remarkable song cycle the ocean’s dream of itself is a luminous, immersive soundscape.
Beethoven’s only opera, Fidelio, is so packed with incredible music that he ended up writing four separate overtures. No.3 charts a journey of courage and liberation, vividly capturing the spirit of a story where love defies tyranny.
Like Beethoven, Ravel took the best bits from his radiant Daphnis & Chloe and condensed it into two orchestral suites, with No.2 closing this concert in a blaze of intensity.
