Rowdy Classics with the Sydney Symphony
Sydney Town Hall
Sat 30 Jan, 2027, 10.30am
Think big tunes and even bigger energy in this Saturday morning concert.
The Sugar Plum Fairy and her Prince glide through one of the most exquisite melodies Tchaikovsky ever wrote for ballet. Bernstein’s Candide Overture arrives with a snap, then the Mambo from West Side Story – so irrepressible it has long since escaped Broadway.
Elena Kats-Chernin’s Dance of the Paper Umbrellas offers a moment of calm before the drama of Tchaikovsky’s Swan Lake, then we journey from the Wild West in Copland’s Hoe-Down to Dvořák’s native Bohemia and their Slavonic Dances.
You can keep your Peaceful Piano and Calming Classical playlists – this is music to get your blood pumping! Vanessa Hughes presides over the mayhem.
