Biography

Growing up in Bloomington, Minnesota, Alice Bartsch began her violin studies at the age of three with Ellen Kim, before going on to study with Young-Nam Kim at the age of 16. She holds a Bachelor of Music degree from the University of Wisconsin-Madison, where she studied with Felicia Moye and David Perry, and a Master’s degree from McGill University in Montreal, where she studied with Axel Strauss.

An avid chamber musician, she has participated in the Zephyr Music Festival in Italy, the Chamber Music Society of Minnesota and Festival de Música de Santa Catarina in Brazil. As a soloist she has performed with the UW-Symphony Orchestra as the 2011 winner of the Symphony Solo Competition and with the Middleton Community Orchestra, an orchestra where she served as concertmaster.

Pursuing an orchestral career, she has participated in the Kent Blossom Music Festival, as well as the Music Academy of the West in Santa Barbara, California. From 2011 she was a member of the first violin section in the Madison Symphony Orchestra and subsequently the Calgary Philharmonic Orchestra (2016–18). She joined the Second Violins of the Sydney Symphony Orchestra in 2018.
