Biography

American Steve Rossé was born in 1964 and joined the Sydney Symphony Orchestra in 1990, having previously performed with major orchestras in the USA and Europe. He has been Principal Tuba with the RAI Torino Radio Symphony Orchestra, World Orchestra of Jeunesses Musicales and the New Mexico Symphony Orchestra, and has served as Guest Principal Tuba with the symphony orchestras of Boston, Philadelphia, San Francisco, and San Diego, and the Academy of St Martin in the Fields.

In addition to performing with the Sydney Symphony Orchestra, Steve Rossé also plays with orchestras such as the Philadelphia Orchestra, with which he has toured internationally. As a soloist he regularly performs recitals and concertos, including new compositions written for him by Australian composers. Recent concerto performances include the John Williams Tuba Concerto with the National Orchestra of Taiwan.

Steve Rossé is a founding member of several ensembles, including the Groovin' Tuba Band, the Tuba Quartet Daraa Thai based in Bangkok, and the New Sydney Conservatorium Brass Ensemble. He is also involved in Australia's growing community brass band movement. He teaches and gives masterclasses both in Australia and abroad on an annual basis.

Steve Rossé lectures at the Sydney Conservatorium of Music and many of his students have won competitions in the Asia-Pacific region and have been appointed to orchestral positions throughout Australia, Asia and Europe. He organises brass festivals and tuba conferences, and hosts his annual Tuba Mania International Festivals in Bangkok.
