Biography

Steven Larson was born in Minneapolis in 1969 and began playing the double bass at the age of nine. During high school, he studied with Minnesota Orchestra members Clifford Biggs and James Clute, and later with Bradley Opland at De Paul University, Chicago. He then studied with Roger Scott at the Curtis Institute of Music in Philadelphia, where he graduated in 1991.

From 1988 to 1993, Steven Larson performed as a Principal Double Bass with orchestras in the New Jersey and Philadelphia area, and also worked on a casual basis with the Philadelphia Orchestra. From 1993 to 1994 he performed with Sarasota Opera, before joining the Orquesta Sinfonica De Galicia in La Coruna, Spain, where he performed as Principal Double Bass until 2001. Steven Larson joined the Sydney Symphony Orchestra in 2002.
