Biography

Wendy Kong began playing violin at the age of six and from the age of nine she studied with Charmian Gadd and Robin Wilson. She completed her Bachelor of Music degree at the Sydney Conservatorium of Music, studying with Ole Bohn as a recipient of the Frank Hammond Merit Scholarship.

She made her solo debut with the Sutherland Shire Symphony Orchestra at the age of 14 and has since performed with the Queensland Youth Orchestra, Balmain Sinfonia, ACO Academy and Penrith Symphony Orchestra. She has won many Australian competitions and scholarships, including the National Youth Concerto Competition and the Sydney Eisteddfod NSW Drs Orchestra Instrumental Scholarship.

She has appeared as concertmaster with several orchestras including the Sydney Conservatorium Symphony Orchestra and FEMUSC Symphony Orchestra in Brazil. As a chamber musician, in 2015 she participated in a chamber music festival in Italy, where her quartet performed in many venues throughout the country. Since the age of nine, she has appeared in recital in Australia and overseas, including broadcasts on Fine Music 102.5 (2MBS-FM) and ABC Classic FM. She has also participated in many masterclasses, most notably with Maxim Vengerov, Leon Spierer and Stefan Jackiw.

Wendy Kong joined the second violin section of the Sydney Symphony Orchestra in 2017.
