David Garrett
Pre-Concert Speaker
One of the first speakers in Sydney Symphony Orchestra pre-concert talks in 1985, David Garrett has since given hundreds of talks – for all Australia’s symphony orchestras, for Musica Viva and other presenters. He combines music programming and research with presenting music in words, written and spoken. Author of thousands of program notes, he is also a regular broadcaster on 2MBS Fine Music Sydney. David Garrett was for many years a principal programmer for the six ABC/Symphony Australia orchestras, and his Ph.D. thesis explored how the Australian Broadcasting Commission became a founder of orchestras and concerts.
